2009 Hearts of Gold Auction

The 2009 Hearts of Gold Auction was held in the Field House at Cretin-Derham Hall on Saturday, April 18. More than 430 people were on hand for Simply CDH; Keeping it Simple in 2009. There were plenty of items on which to bid, and the heavy appetizer and dessert tables were a hit!
IMG_1644 Initial accounting indicates that the net proceeds from this event will likely surpass last year's total, quite a feat in a down economy. A big, big thank you to all of our guests, underwriters, advertisers, gold benefactors, benefactors, and sponsors for making this event so much fun and so profitable. And to our extraordinary group of volunteers, including the Cretin-Derham Hall Alumni/ae Association whose members staffed the bar: this event could not be held each year without your hard work, guidance and expertise. The school and its students are indebted to you all.

Justice Week and Empty Bowls

Cretin-Derham Hall’s annual Br. James Miller Justice Week was observed February 9-13, 2009. Entitled “The Ethics of Food and Water: Something to Chew On,” the week’s events explored how each of us uses the basic necessities of food and water.

E.Bowls-Group-Photo6833 The annual Empty Bowls Benefit was held during Justice Week. CDH students, working with faculty, staff, alumni/ae, parents, area schools, artisans, businesses and civic organizations, hosted lunch and dinner in the Auxiliary Gym. Guests purchased a ceramic bowl, handmade by local artisans and art students, and then enjoyed a simple meal of soup and bread. All proceeds from this event were donated to Heifer International, an organization whose goal is to end world hunger by providing livestock and seed to families in developing countries so that the families can become self-sufficient. More than $8,500 was raised, a record year! Pictured are the student volunteers who made this year's Empty Bowls such a success! Congratulations!
