CDH Theater Honored at SpotLight Awards Program

 The Cretin-Derham Hall Theater Department’s musical production of Crazy for You, which played on two weekends in April and May at CDH, was recognized by the Hennepin Theatre Trust Education SpotLight Musical Theatre Awards Program. This program was created in the fall of 2005 to recognize schools and students who participate and excel in musical theater. The awards, which will be presented in June, include:

  • Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical
  • Outstanding Performance by a Chorus Ensemble
  • Outstanding Performance by a Dance Ensemble
  • Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role: Brittany Falardeau (Polly Baker)
  • Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role: Jake Hermann (Bobby Child)
  • Honorable Mention - Performance in a Lead Role: Tyler Davis (Bela)
  • Honorable Mention - Performance in a Supporting Role: Hannah Quicksell (Lottie Child)
  • Honorable Mention - Performance in a Featured Role: Gemma Wilson (Tess)

“I do not exaggerate when I say this was the best high school musical production I’ve ever attended in the 40+ years of theater experience,” commented one of the judges. “You’ve won me over as a fan, and I intend to attend future productions at Cretin-Derham Hall, whether as a representative of the SpotLight program or simply as an admirer of well-crafted theatre.”

CDH Theater Department Presents Crazy for You

 

For Immediate Release

The Cretin-Derham Hall Theater Department will present the Spring Musical, Crazy for You, the hilarious and uplifting tale of a New York City tap dancer who finds the love of his life in a small Western town. The play, presented in the CDH Lillian Theater, features the music of George Gershwin and incorporates classics such as I Got Rhythm and Someone to Watch Over Me. Performances are scheduled for two weekends: April 24-26 and May 1-3, 2009; Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:00 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m. The Saturday, April 25, production includes a dinner theater at 6:00 p.m. with the performance to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors/students and can be purchased at the door or in the Main Office at Cretin-Derham Hall. Dinner Theater tickets cost $35, which includes dinner, a ticket to the performance and a donation to the Theater Department.

CDH to Host Empty Bowls Benefit

 Cretin-Derham Hall to Host 7th Annual Empty Bowls Benefit

 For Immediate Release

 Students at Cretin-Derham Hall, working hand-in-hand with faculty, staff, alumni/ae, parents, area

schools, artisans, businesses and civic organizations, will be hosting the 7th  Annual Empty Bowls Benefit on Wednesday, February 11, 2009, from 11:00 a.m.– 1:00 p.m. (lunch) and from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. (dinner) in the Auxiliary Gym at Cretin-Derham Hall.

 Guests will be invited to purchase a ceramic bowl, handmade by local artisans and art students, and then enjoy a simple meal of soup and bread. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Heifer International, an organization whose goal is to end world hunger by providing livestock and seed to families in developing countries so that the families may become self-sufficient.

 A donation of $10 per guest is requested and hoped for, but not required, and the event is open to the public. To date, Cretin-Derham Hall students have raised more than $40,000 in support of Heifer International.

Cretin-Derham Hall Hosts Br. James Miller Justice Week

For Immediate Release

Cretin-Derham Hall’s 2009 Justice Week will be observed February 9-13, 2009.  Entitled “The Ethics of Food and Water: Something to Chew On,” the week’s events will explore how each of us uses the basic necessities of food and water.

Students, faculty, and staff will explore such topics as water rights and access, community-supported agriculture, food co-ops, NAFTA and CAFTA, the ethical treatment of farm animals, corporate food production, and projects which serve food to underserved communities.

Watermark, a theater production created by the CDH Theater Department and the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater of Minneapolis, will be performed for the public on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Lillian Theater. Admission is free and open to the public. Also featured on the program is Irene O’Neill, CSJ, who will present information on the Kenya Water Project.

Theater Department Presents "Twelfth Night"

The Cretin-Derham Hall Theater Department will present Twelfth Night on two weekends: October 24-26 and October 31-November 1, 2008.  Show times are at 7:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2:00 p.m. on Sundays.

The play, directed by theater instructor, Anne Frances Gerstner, will be presented 60s style and feature Beatles music and beatnik poetry as the audience is guided through Shakespeare's comedy of mistaken identity.

CDH Band to Host 4th Annual Bandcake Breakfast

For Immediate Release

The Cretin-Derham Hall Band will host the 4th Annual Bandcake Breakfast in the school's cafeteria at 550 S. Albert St, St. Paul, MN, 55116, on Sunday, October 12, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost is $5 per person, $20 per family, and $4 for those under 12 and over 65. The event will feature live music and a raffle.  Proceeds will go towards the band's travel expenses for off-site performances.
