2008 Br. Martel Spring Clean Up

Dozens of Cretin-Derham Hall alumni/ae and current students fanned out across the Macalester/Groveland neighborhood on Saturday, April 26, 2008, for the Annual Br. Martel Spring Clean Up Day. Each year, CDH partners with the Macalester-Groveland Community Council to identify area residents who need a little help getting their yards in shape for the coming season.
Despite rain, sleet and biting cold, the alums and students managed to spruce up more than 30 yards which would have made Br. Martel very happy! Congratulations!

CDH Social Justice Opportunities for Alumni/ae

Cretin-Derham Hall teachers Amy Bellus '90 and Ann Marie Froehle are inviting alumni/ae to join a social justice trip to Kenya in the summer of 2009. The group will be traveling to Rabondo, an area in Western Kenya, where Father John Forliti '54 has made many friendships with villagers and community leaders. The group will fly into Nairobi and travel 150 miles west by bus. Much of the time will be spent at St. Timon's secondary school, and a short safari is also planned. The trip will cost approximately $3,000. For more information about the town of Rabondo and the people, click here.

Other social justice opportunities are available at CDH for alumni/ae of the school, including work on Habitat for Humanity sites. The photo at left is of a group of alumni/ae and CDH students at a Habitat site in December, 2007.

CDH Hosts Chicago Reception

Alumni/ae in the Windy City area were invited to a reception held at PJ Clarke's on Monday, December 10, 2007, hosted by Cretin-Derham Hall. CDH Alumni/ae Reunite Over Thanksgiving Weekend

The CDH Thanksgiving Get Together was held on Friday, November 23, 2007, at O'Gara's in St. Paul, MN. A standing-room-only crowd of CDH alumni/ae renewed old friendships and forged some new ones at this annual event. CDH Hosts Legacy Society Mass and Reception

In October, 2007, Cretin-Derham Hall hosted a Mass and reception for members of the Legacy Society, individuals who have included CDH in a bequest or who have named endowments. Alumni Celebrate at Cretin Banquet

Nearly 500 alumni and friends of Cretin and Cretin-Derham Hall gathered at the annual Cretin Alumni Banquet held in the CDH Field House on October 11, 2007. John Mueller '61 received the Bishop Cretin Award in recognition of his service to his community and to CDH, and for his career achievements. Br. Michael Lee Anderson, FSC, was recognized with the St. De La Salle Award for his outstanding service to his community and ministry. Dennis Denning '62 was inducted into the Cretin Athletic Hall of Fame, and John Griep was named an honorary alumnus.

Derham Hall Alumnae Celebrate at Annual Brunch

The Annual Derham Hall Alumnae Brunch was held at CDH on September 22, 2007. Among those recognized at the event were alumnae award recipients Jane Leyden Cavanaugh '81, the Hour Glass Award; Betsy Keyes '74, the Hugh Derham Award; and Gretchen Stein '73, the Carondelet Award. Also recognized were the Classes of 1957 and 1982 for creating endowments which will serve students at CDH in perpetuity.

Mauer Visits Raider Summer Baseball Camp

Hometown baseball star Joe Mauer '01 visited the Raider Summer Baseball Camp held at Cretin-Derham Hall on July 18, 2007. Following a Q & A session with players and coaches, he signed copies of Scorebook magazine for all. Mauer was in town for the Twins' series with the Detroit Tigers.

New Scoreboard Installed in North Baseball Field

From left: Phil Bettenburg '76, David Bogie '82, Jim O'Neill '74 and Paul Molitor '74 posed for a picture below the new scoreboard that was installed in the north baseball field in the spring of 2007. Bettenburg and Bogie, co-owners of North American Systems, Inc., provided funding for the scoreboard, which is located in center field behind the CDH bushes. The State Championship years are noted on the scoreboard, as is the year Paul Molitor was inducted into baseball's Hall of Fame.

Alumni Tee Off at Highland National

The sun was shining on 145 Cretin/CDH alumni at the annual Cretin Alumni Golf Tournament held at Highland National Golf Course in St. Paul on June 29, 2007.
