Pope Benedict XVI announced on April 21, 2009, the appointment of The Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson, Cretin Class of 1962, as the Archbishop of St. Louis. He will become St. Louis' ninth archbishop.
Since February, 2005, Bishop Carlson has served as the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw, MI. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Bishop of Sioux Falls, SD, from 1994-2005.
He was ordained to the priesthood in 1970 and consecrated a bishop in 1983.

Congratulations on your appointment to St. Louis. When I heard about it, I said "Wow, he is just the person they need for healing and the support of Catholic education." Plus, we get to keep Bishop Terry Steib in Memphis for at least a bit longer. I was at Totino-Grace, Cretin and DeLa Salle from 1968-89.

Bishop Carlson is a good personal friend of my family's. My mom and dad were the first couple he ever married. We're really proud of him! Congratulations "Bish". :)
